Be Part of The Show

At St. Bede's, one of our main tasks is to help students in their search for their personal identity, and participation in Drama and Performing Arts is a valuable contribution to this goal.

It has been an amazing term with so much to celebrate in the classroom and beyond.

We have had many occasions to celebrate our talents and gifts.

Thank you to everyone for all of your great work. I wish all of our families a Happy and Holy Easter.

Theme of the week

Challenge

As we prepare for Holy Week, let us take some time to welcome Jesus into our hearts in the same way he was welcomed into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.

Prayer

Merciful God, as we enter Holy Week,
turn our hearts again to Jerusalem,
and to the life, death,
and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Stir up within us the gift of faith that we may not only praise him with our lips, but may follow him in the way of the cross.
Amen.

Parents' Guide to Live Streaming

Live streaming is something that will be a regular pastime for many pupils. Due to the crucial, live, element to it, there are additional dangers that parents need to be aware of. Below are some top tips for parents. - Mr Sanders

Rail Engineering

On Wednesday we had two engineers, Andrew, and Josh Caiger, from Alstom rail company come in to support our new project with Prep 5. The project is funded by the The Primary Engineer . The aim of the project is to educate and inspire the next generation of engineers.

Prep 5 pupils are working in pairs to design and make working locomotives. Our winning engineers will then take part in a regional celebration event with other schools.

This week with the help of the engineers we started to construct the chassis.

Mass with Parents and Grandparents

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who attended mass on Wednesday. It was an honour to welcome families into the College chapel and celebrate mass together. Fr Micheal Deas who is the parish priest at St Augustine’s Church off Oxford Road has been celebrating the Wednesday morning mass this term. We are very blessed that Fr Michael Deas, former Bedian pupil has been able to support the College with weekly mass in addition to his parish and diocesan commitments. - Mrs C Hibbert

Senior Games - Bede’s rowers enjoyed their final session down at Salford Quays. Erin tried her hand at coxing a quad made up of Sonya, Theo, Brandon and Lucia. - Mrs C Smith.

Easter Egg Competition

In the Art Department this half-term, we have run an Easter Egg Competition with the Upper Third, to create a scene using eggs to make the characters. We were really impressed with the effort that all of the Upper Third put in and there were a great number of very successful pieces, so well done to everyone! It honestly was very hard to judge them this year.

The Historians' Club

The Historians' Club proudly welcomed Upper Sixth pupil, Tony, to deliver his second talk last Friday lunchtime. He delivered an engaging talk on the 2008 financial crash of the United States stock market and its impact, not only on the United States, but the global economy. This follows on from a superbly presented talk from Upper Fourth pupil, Bosco, on the Qin Dynasty. It has been excellent to have more and more pupils taking on a leading role in The Historians' Club, alongside staff from other departments. We hope this can continue into next term with more pupils taking part, whether that be at Historians' Club, or other clubs the department has to offer such as Political Animals or The Bedian Classics Club. - Mr T Wilson

Carnegie Shadowing Group

The group of pupils and staff who are shadowing the judges of the prestigious Carnegie Medal, met again this week and started to exchange views about the shortlisted books. We all went away with books to read over Easter and look forward to more discussion next term - Mrs K Poolton

The Importance of Water

It’s common to hear that water is essential for your health. But why? This substance makes up a majority of your body weight and is involved in many important functions, including: flushing out waste from your body, regulating body temperature, helping your brain function. You get most of your water from drinking beverages, but food also contributes a small amount to your daily water intake.

How much water should you drink?

Being attentive to the amount of water you drink each day is important for optimal health. Most people drink when they’re thirsty, which helps regulate daily water intake. Carrying a water bottle daily is important. Water is important to nearly every part of your body. Not only will hitting your daily recommended intake help you maintain your current state of being, it may even improve your overall health at home and school.

Reception Class

Reception Class have been learning about the Life Cycle of a caterpillar/butterfly. They were looking after their own caterpillars that have now metamorphosed into beautiful butterflies. Today they released them into nature.
