| | | When we talk about academic excellence, we don't just mean student performance through good grades; at St. Bede's we work to enable each student to reach their full potential through their all-round development. This is one of the main reasons why St. Bede's students are instantly recognisable as determined, thoughtful and compassionate people, always in awe of the world around them. |

| | | | | | Well done to pupils in the Sixth Form and Upper Fifth on their first week of their public examinations. Pupils in other year groups are now preparing for their internal examinations. At this busy time of study I trust all of our pupils will be inspired by St Bede! | | | | |

|
| | | What is peace? Do you have peace in your life? Jesus promises that he will leave us his peace and that we can not get that peace from the world, only from God. Invite God in a moment of stillness and quiet to bring peace into your heart. |
|
|
| | | Lord God, Give me your peace, a peace the world can not give me. Give me your peace, that I am never troubled or afraid. Help me to share that peace with others around me. Amen. |

| | Victory for the U-13 Team | |
| | The U13s were victorious over Oldham Hulme in a recent cricket game at South West Cricket Club. We were 92-3 off 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Their chase left them with 56-8 through 20 overs.
The result included an excellent batting performance from Oliver R who was 20 not out.
The bowling performance from all the boys was superb but stand out performances came from Jack Marks 3-8 (3 overs), Joe Kennedy 2-6 (4 overs) and Michael Buckley 1-5 (3 overs). - Mr L Mitchell.

| | | After a two year hiatus, the Prep 6 pupils finally headed off on their long-anticipated residential trip to Boreatton Park, a PGL outdoor adventure centre hidden in the beautiful Shropshire countryside. The children enjoyed their return to nature, spending four nights in log cabins and thriving on some incredibly challenging but fun outdoor pursuits. They really developed their team-building skills and their confidence by working outside their comfort zones to overcome their fears. - Mr J Joyce-O'keeffe. | |

| | | Are You Ready for a Challenge? | |
| | To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee the Maher Library and the English Department are challenging pupils to read seven books (one for each decade!) over the summer. Pupils will be able to choose their own books but we are asking that they fit into set categories. For example, a book written by a Commonwealth author or set in a Commonwealth country. Displays and lists of books fitting into each category will be available in the Library.
Certificates, chocolate prizes and ACE awards are all up for grabs in September and anyone wishing to take part can pick up a stamp card from the Maher Library or their English teacher.
Happy Reading!
- Miss Moore & Mrs Poolton.

There will be a huge cast this year due to the sheer talent displayed during the audition rounds. Here is the cast in the first meeting before rehearsals commence in earnest next half term. This will be an epic show! - Mr J Dickson. |

| | | Active Leadership at St. Bede's |
|

|
|
| | |
| | On the afternoon of Wednesday 18 May, our new Executive had a strategy meeting with Mr Rose and Mrs Kemp. During the course of their applications for positions on the Executive, our team of Senior Prefects articulated some excellent ideas on how they could take an active role in the leadership of the College from September, and this meeting served the purpose of collating these ideas and agreeing upon the ways in which they would be implemented. From September, each House will have two designated House Prefects and each year group in College will be overseen by a Senior Prefect. The Executive are a joy to work with and we know that they are going to make a huge impact upon the experience of all pupils across the College in the new academic year. - Mr Rose and Dr McMonagle. |

| | We know we have some very talented students, but we want to be even more aware of all their successes, including the ones they achieve when they walk out the door of our buildings.
Please contact the relevant department head and send us photos and information about your child's achievements. We'll be proud to share it with the whole Bedian family. #Be part of a Great Tradition #BeBedian bedesnews@sbcm.co.uk

| Upper Sixth Leavers' Morning | |
| | Our Upper Sixth Leavers' Morning took place on Thursday 12 May. It was entirely appropriate that the morning began with a mass of thanksgiving for both pupils and their parents, celebrated by Fr Michael Deas, in which the pupils reflected upon their many years in College, gave thanks for all they had learned and celebrated the diverse contributions that they had made to the extra-curricular life of the College. This was followed by Upper Sixth Form Prize Giving in the Academic Hall, where academic prizes were awarded and students' contributions to sport, the arts and chaplaincy were recognised. The morning concluded with refreshments in the Joseph Refectory and photographs. We hope that our Upper Sixth will look back fondly on their time at St Bede's and know that they are Bedians for life! We wish them every success in their forthcoming examinations and beyond. - Mr Rose and Dr McMonagle. |

| We are so Proud of David Onac | |
| | Our very own Dr David Onac has written and arranged some pieces which were specially commissioned for the new ABRSM exam syllabus 2023/24! This is quite a significant international accomplishment, but in addition, of the over 300 new pieces, the ABRSM usually feature only a handful for a high-profile press-release and has selected one of his pieces. - Mr J Dickson. | |

| Lower Fourth Countdown Competition | |
| | Wednesday lunchtime concluded the Lower Fourth Countdown competition for this half term. Kenawa and Yancy of Campion took on Anthony and Abdulsamad of Bosco. A closely fought contest saw Bosco overcome Campion by 27 points to 15. That leaves the total scores of the competition as follows: Magdalene in 4th place with 9 points, Campion in 3rd with 15, Bosco in 2nd with 27 and our overall winners are Siena with an excellent score of 34. A huge well done to all pupils who represented their houses so well and thank you once again to all staff who helped to run the event. Countdown will be back for the final time after half term when the Upper Third face each other. - Mr T Wilson. | |
