St Bede was one of the greatest scientists of his time and we are delighted to remember him and his work in this week dedicated to science!

On Thursday our pupils had an opportunity to reflect on the life of St Patrick. As a famous landmark in Manchester our College went green as part of the celebrations!

This week we have had several activities for British Science Week. There were some amazing fancy dress costumes and considerable fun completing the treasure hunt. Everyone was in their element!

Lent - Listen

Challenge

Lent is a time of prayer. Jesus is present to us and wants to speak to us. Spend some time being quiet and ask God to speak to you. You might not hear audible words, but God speaks in your heart, in an image in your mind, a feeling or a dream. Have a look at the Lenten Programme and select something to get involved with. Listen to God.

Prayer

Lord God, we thank you that you are God over everything; let your beautiful light shine into the darkness. As we journey with you through lent, transform our lives so that they are filled with your light. Prepare our hearts to receive the voice of your spirit. Amen.

Upper Third girls hockey teams played Withington this week in some closely fought matches narrowly losing out both times. Mrs Lavorini was extremely pleased with the effort and determination. - Mrs A Sharp

Drama Showcase

Theatre is an essential part of the Bedian spirit. It is a form of expression that allows our students to share different emotions, gain confidence, show their talent and, of course, have fun. You can't miss the opportunity to see them in action! - Mrs N Alderson

We Continue to Support Ukraine

The situation in Ukraine has not gone unnoticed by our students. From different fronts and with a great desire to help, some of them have organised themselves to support the refugees left behind by this war. Malaya and Liliella raised £196.30 by selling badges, bracelets and keyrings at lunchtime. The girls made the merchandise and sold them to the other pupils and staff. Lucy and Sadie ran the cake stall to raise money for Ukrainian refugees with precision and professionalism.

We are very proud that they have put their entrepreneurial skills to great use and shown their faith in action.

Congratulations to them!

Thank you for all your support so far with the recent appeal for the people of Ukraine. We have now been asked to offer further help for the fantastic work of CAFOD who are providing urgent care to some of the 2 million people who have fled their homes to escape war.

We would like to invite families and businesses to donate a prize to our Online Auction to raise vital funds for this charity. We will advertise your business online under the auction item, which will be circulated amongst the College and wider community.

We are looking for a wide variety of prizes from meals, events, hotel stays, luxury items, hampers etc.

Magdalene House Event

Wednesday lunchtime saw the final round of Upper Fourth Countdown, with Solomon and Jasmine from Magdalene taking on Bosco and Samuel from Bosco. A very competitive game kept the scores very close for the majority of the rounds. However, as the crucial final rounds approached Bosco edged ahead and secured victory by 16 points to 12. A huge well done to all competitors, particularly Samuel and another thank you to the teachers involved. That leaves the final standings as Siena in 4th with 11 points, Magdalene in 3rd with 12, Bosco in 2nd with 16 and our overall winners in Upper Fourth are Campion with 21 points. Well done to all who took part and we are looking forward to next half term when the Lower Fourth competition will begin. - Mr T Wilson

Wish You Were Here?

The Lower Sixth spent 3 days in a residential centre in East Yorkshire. The first day our students spent the afternoon in Scarborough in the rain practising data collection techniques for human geography. We had a great second day in Hornsea collecting physical geography data on the beach in the sunshine. Wish you were here?

Congratulations Sophie and Francesca on receiving a Headteacher’s Award. Everyone was so amazed by your help and support during the LAMDA examinations in school this week.
