| | | | | | It was wonderful to celebrate Mass with pupils in the Upper Fifth and Upper Sixth on Wednesday and Thursday this week prior to pupils commencing their public examinations. I would like to thank every pupil for all that they have contributed to College life with regard to sport, drama, music and charity work. Our pupils have all been blessed with many talents and a wealth of knowledge. I hope that pupils leaving will always remember it is not what you know that is important, but how you use your knowledge to enable our world to be a better place! We wish you all well in your final preparation for examinations and every success. | | | | |

|
| | | Love is a verb, a doing word. Love is not an empty word but a statement backed up by actions. Jesus is inviting us into a new commandment, to love one another as he loves us. Jesus’ love was totally self-giving, so much that he gave his life as ransom for our sins. We can not only love those who love us, rather we need to extend our love to all people and that is how people will know we are followers of Christ. How can you share God’s love this week to those you meet, those you live with, those you work and learn with?
|
|
|
| | | Lord God, give me eyes like yours, so that I can see people as you see them. Help me to look at people through your loving eyes and let your love for them be lived out through me, in my words and actions. Amen. |

| | | A beautiful celebration of mass for the Upper Fifth leavers. The pupils led the readings and hymns. The congregation were treated to a beautiful rendition of ‘I won’t move until you speak’ by Life Church Worship, performed by Lyanne. A lovely way to celebrate their achievements with their families. On Thursday 12 May, Mass was also held for the sixth form students, coinciding with a very special day for them. May God bless you all as you begin your study leave.

| | +Patron Saint of Exams St. Joseph of Cupertino for Success in Examinations+ Heavenly Father, I praise and thank you for all the blessings you have given me as a student. I pray to you, in Jesus’ name, to send me the Holy Spirit as I take these examinations. Remove from my heart all anxieties and fear. Lord, enlighten my mind and inspire me so that I may pass these exams according to your will. Continue to help me and give success to the works of my hand. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

| Parents' Guide to Live Streaming |
| | Pupils can face a lot of pressure to succeed in examinations and this can sometimes feel overwhelming for them. While there is no magic wand to make this go away, there are ways pupils can stay calm, focused and prepared. If pupils are struggling to sleep, getting more anxious or irritable than usual or feeling totally overwhelmed, this can be an indicator they are experiencing too much stress. Below are some tips if you are worried about your child. - Mr Sanders. | |

| | To coincide with the up-and-coming launch of the new telephone system at the College, callers waiting on hold will be entertained with the beautiful sounds of Karena’s (Siena House) composition entitled “Working Together“.
Karena is a talented composer and has completed many fantastic compositions since she has been at the College.
Karena says “I originally composed this piece to accompany a short film entitled ‘Working Together’. It is a short video which tells the story of a girl who makes a bird out of paper that flies off but is improved and enhanced by everyone who finds it. The mood of the piece is upbeat and relaxing which I think will entertain people while they wait on the phone. I hope they like it.”

| | | Kate Greenaway Medal Shadowing | |
| In their lessons in the Library, our Upper Third and Lower Fourth pupils are currently judging the eight books shortlisted for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal which is awarded annually for an outstanding book in terms of illustration for children and young people. Just like the national judges, they are looking at visual experience, artistic style, visual representation, synergy between text and illustration and format and then voting for their favourite. Our votes will help to decide the Shadowers’ Choice Award which runs alongside the national award. - Mrs K Poolton. | |

We wish them all the best and have enjoyed jogging with them and seeing them improve their times and encourage and support each other around the 5k course. Tony and Dom stormed ahead for a speedy extra lap this afternoon to finish off in style! - Mrs M Reid. |

| | Mastermind Inter-house Competition | |
| This week the Upper Fourth competed in inter-house Mastermind. Once again it was a competitive and well supported event, with each pupil representing their house with distinction. Sarah represented Siena, with the special subject of the TV series, Friends. Sam represented Bosco, with his special subject of the Twelfth Night. Grace represented Campion, with a special subject of The Hunger Games and finally Solomon represented Magdalene on the subject of Pulp Fiction.
The competition was fierce and the pupils' specialist subject knowledge in particular was excellent. In the end, Grace ran out the overall winner, with an outstanding score of 39. Solomon finished second on 34 points, with Sarah scoring 30 points, just beating Sam's score of 29 into third place. We continue to be astounded by our pupils' knowledge and inquisitiveness during this Mastermind series; we cannot wait for the Lower Fifth to compete.

| We have two singing superstars from Prep 6 and Prep 4; congratulations to Imogen and Romilly who entered the ‘Solo Vocal’ competition for their age group at the Alderley Edge Festival last week and won. Imogen took first place over eleven other competitors in the Year 6 solo vocal section with ‘God Help the Outcasts’. Romilly entered two vocal solo classifications and came third and first with ‘Bessie the Black Cat’ and ‘I don’t want to live on the Moon’ respectively. The Alderley Edge Festival is such a prestigious and competitive event, we are so proud of Imogen and Romilly in their fantastic achievements.

| | We know we have some very talented students, but we want to be even more aware of all their successes, including the ones they achieve when they walk out the door of our buildings.
Please contact the relevant department head and send us photos and information about your child's achievements. We'll be proud to share it with the whole Bedian family. #Be part of a Great Tradition #BeBedian bedesnews@sbcm.co.uk | |

| | | | Congratulations to Tobi and Cissy on receiving their Headteacher Awards this week from Mrs Hunt. Mrs Hunt has been amazed by Tobi's resilience, positivity and the way he has behaved so well and displayed excellent manners over recent weeks. Cissy has been chosen for her kindness towards a visitor in school who did not speak English. It was wonderful to witness. Cissy looked after our guest throughout the day and supported her in the classroom and beyond ensuring she felt at ease.
Both pupils have displayed real Bedian qualities and we are very proud of them.
