Headteacher's Message

On Tuesday the sun was shining as our Prep pupils celebrated the Platinum Jubilee. Meeting our Prep Queen was definitely the highlight of my week. A special day for everyone to remember! Well done to all of our pupils on the completion of their internal examinations today. Good luck to our Upper Fifth and Upper Sixth with the rest of their public examinations.

Challenge

At Pentecost the Holy Spirit came to be with us always. God sent the Holy Spirit upon the apostles which marked the handing over of Jesus’ ministry to the church. In the church we are guaranteed to encounter Christ.

Our mission is to tell others. Your Challenge this week is to invite the Holy Spirit to help you announce the Good news.

Prayer

Bless the Lord, my soul! Lord God, how great you are. How many are your works, O Lord! The earth is full of your riches. Send forth your spirit O Lord, and renew the face of the earth.

Social Media Scams

With the use of social media being such a large part of many young people’s daily lives, they are sometimes oblivious that it can be used as a tool to take advantage of them. Social media scams are a growing phenomenon that young people need to be educated against and safeguarded from. - Mr T Sanders

Trip to LegoLand Discovery Centre

On Wednesday 8 June Prep 1 and Prep 2 visited the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre as part of their STEM learning. During their visit the children were challenged to design and build racing cars. Once they had finalised their design and built their creation, they were able to test them on different racetracks, giving them the opportunity to modify and improve their vehicles. After lunch, the children took part in a workshop where they had to design and construct a seesaw. They investigated how to balance different objects and discussed how the pivot point on the seesaw had an impact on how well balanced it was. The children had a fantastic day and really enjoyed designing and building with LEGO!

Manchester Schools' Athletics Competition

Congratulations to our U12 quad kids teams. As the name suggests the pupils participate in four athletic events including long jump, howler throw, 100m sprint and 800m. All their individual results are added to give an overall placement and also the team’s points are added for the team positions. The girls team finished first with Carey being the best overall individual and Zara the second overall individual. Needless to say, they won the relay event at the end of the day as well! - Mrs N McCormick

A Tree for the Queen's Green Canopy

On Thursday our Head Boy, John, and our Head Girl, Katy, took part in 'Plant a Tree for the Jubilee'.
In order to commemorate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, our school caterers, Holroyd Howe, donated a crab apple tree and a wild pear tree that John and Katy planted in the Regis garden. - Mr D Rose

Jubilee Street Party

On Friday 27 May, the Lower Sixth enjoyed a special Jubilee Street Party to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. The menu comprised burgers, hot dogs, chips and pizza - a real end of term treat and an opportunity to experience a great British tradition in our own spacious Sixth Form Centre! - Mr D Rose

Go Tirso! Go!

On 22 May the Reddish Vulcans won the Manchester Young Sunday League 2021/2022 (Under 10´s). Tirso plays as a right-wing and striker for the club, who won 5-0 on the last game of the season.

Dancing Her Way to the Finals

During half term Francesca in Upper Fourth competed in the All England Dance Regional Finals with six dances. In four of them she placed 1st or 2nd and came 3rd in two. She has also qualified to dance at the National Finals in London at the end of July.

The New Taste of St Bede's

Join this pop up to experience the new taste of St Bede's brought to you by our new caterers, Harrison, who will be preparing our food from September 2022. Drop by the dining room on Thursday 16 June at 15:30, enjoy free samples of nutritious food while you meet the team and discuss the food provenance, management of allergies and catering arrangements. Parents are more than welcome to join!

Jubilee Celebrations

On Tuesday, the whole Prep School came together to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. The morning started with cakes on the Headteacher’s Lawn where everyone was able to parade their costumes and hat designs, sing God Save the Queen and cry out ‘Three Cheers’ in honour of her Majesty. As well as a number of activities in class, there was a Jubilee Trail where children had to find clues and answers to questions related to our monarch. In all, the children enjoyed a wonderful day celebrating the Queen’s astonishing seventy-year reign. - Mr J Joyce-O’Keeffe

Volunteering Without Limits

Volunteering has a huge impact on young people. This is why it is such an essential part of a DofE program. Whether it's giving back to our community, developing a passion for a particular cause or learning a new skill through your volunteer activity, the Volunteer section changes lives and positively impacts communities.

In one year, our volunteers have dedicated 897 hours between April 2021 and March 2022, with a social value of £4,144.14. This is an incredible achievement and we hope you are as proud as we are. - Miss C Whitney

Teachers in Disguise

On Wednesday lunchtime this week, Bosco House will be hosting its very own version of the 'Masked Singer' Featuring a top secret line-up of talented teachers who will be vying for the Crown. Who will it be? There will also be guest appearances form teachers and staff in what promises to be a very entertaining lunchtime. All proceeds will go to the Red Cross and Help in Ukraine charities. - Mr A Davies

We know we have some very talented students, but we want to be even more aware of all their successes, including the ones they achieve when they walk out of the door of our buildings.

Prep Headteacher Award

Congratulations Josiah on receiving a Headteacher Award. Josiah took part in the Junior Manchester Run in aid of the Barnabus Charity which does amazing work helping the homeless in our community. Josiah amazed everybody in the Prep raising £450 on his run. He is a superstar, making such a wonderful difference to people’s lives.
